We are a vibrant, caring community in a small beautiful medieval building and grounds. We are wishing to offer the opportunity to volunteer with the members of our community, and enjoy the peace, closeness with nature and supportive atmosphere The Abbey offers. We are looking for people who are willing to contribute to the daily tasks of The Abbey while being aware of our values and culture.
During your stay we will be hosting a residential group at The Abbey. In exchange for room and board, we ask for your assistance with daily tasks such as housekeeping, gardening and helping in the kitchen. You would be providing an invaluable support for The Abbey and it’s community that we hope you will find rewarding.
We would welcome the following:
- An ability to work and collaborate with people
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, with a willingness to self reflect and to give and receive feedback.
- A mature and caring outlook
We are hoping to welcome volunteers for the following dates:
7th to the 20th of February
7th to the 20th of March
And the full month of June
During your stay you would have your own room (with Wifi) in the main house, with a shared bathroom. We warmly welcome you to join our morning meditations. We share one community meal a day with each other (either lunch or evening meal), and we’d provide you with ingredients to cook for the other meal.
Letter of Introduction
We invite you to write a short letter to introduce yourself. This helps us to get to know you a little better before you visit us. Volunteers in the past, have found that writing this letter can help them gain insight and clarity into how they are at this point in their life as well as the reasons they feel drawn to spending time at The Abbey. We’d like to get a sense of your current life circumstances, what brings you joy, and what are your challenges. We’d also appreciate you writing a few words as to why you’d like to volunteer with us, and any experience or skills you’d like to contribute.
Please don’t worry about spelling or grammar, just write from the heart.
Once we receive your letter of introduction we will be in touch to arrange a zoom conversation with you, and our community members, alternatively if you are local a visit to The Abbey..
For local volunteers, we regret we are often too busy to deal with drop in enquirers, please email or call Wendy (mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org)to arrange tea and a tour with a member of the community.

Work as a volunteer is new for us but is something that without doubt we recommend. To live close to you this six weeks gave us the opportunity to meet different people with different backgrounds. At the beginning in the Abbey, we looked for a place to live and improve our English, and now at the end we realize that we received much more: kindness, friendship, laughs, comprehension, respect and of course love. The Abbey is an amazing place full of peace and quietness where while you connect with the nature you can also connect with other people and with yourself.
Thanks for such a pleasant stay.Itziar and Rubén, volunteers from Spain
