Local and International

At the moment we are unable to offer places to volunteers, hopefully this situation will be resolved by the autumn.

Throughout the year, volunteers from all over the world join us for short and extended stays, sharing and contributing to life at The Abbey.

People of all ages and backgrounds enjoy the beauty and tranquility of this unique place, generously offering their time and energy in return for comfortable accommodation, good food and a friendly atmosphere.

We ask that our volunteers come with an understanding of our values and a genuine willingness to contribute to The Abbey’s daily tasks, from gardening, housework and helping in the kitchen.

Our volunteers provide an invaluable contribution to The Abbey’s way of life, the exchange is extremely rewarding for participants, guests and the whole Abbey community.

Most of our volunteers come through the WWOOF UK or HelpX networks but individual arrangements can be made by contacting us directly.

If you are not a member of either organisation you are required to provide us with two references with your volunteer application.

We accept residential volunteers for stays of 2-6 weeks in the first instance. We also welcome local people who are able to offer help on a regular, non-residential basis.

For local volunteers, we regret we are often too busy to deal with drop in enquirers, please email or call Wendy (mailto:admin@theabbey.uk.com)to arrange tea and a tour with a member of the community.

For all volunteer inquiries please email admin@theabbey.uk.com

Work as a volunteer is new for us but is something that without doubt we recommend. To live close to you this six weeks gave us the opportunity to meet different people with different backgrounds. At the beginning in the Abbey, we looked for a place to live and improve our English, and now at the end we realize that we received much more: kindness, friendship, laughs, comprehension, respect and of course love. The Abbey is an amazing place full of peace and quietness where while you connect with the nature you can also connect with other people and with yourself.

Thanks for such a pleasant stay.
