“What a special place The Abbey is. Please pass on my thanks to the team for holding this much-needed safe space for us weary pilgrims. After only a couple of days I find myself missing the food, the stillness and the gentle community.”

Rest & Renewal

One of our founders’ hopes was that The Abbey might provide a place to ‘stop and think’; The Abbey’s Rest & Renewal Retreat provides both the time and space to do this.

The wonderful atmosphere of The Abbey provides a nurturing peaceful space for self-guided meditation, contemplation, prayer and relaxation. For 3 days you are invited to join The Abbey community for silent meditation and home cooked vegetarian meals.

Whether you are seeking spiritual direction, conversation or simply a little time out from your busy schedule, The Abbey’s unique medieval building and extensive grounds provide the perfect environment to ‘stop and think’.

Our monthly Rest & Renewal Retreats run from Tuesday to Thursday.

What to expect while staying with The Abbey on Retreat

Retreats run from lunchtime Tuesday to after lunch on Thursday.  You are welcome to arrive any time from 10am on the Tuesday morning.

Healthy Meals –  Silent Contemplation

Three meals a day will be provided: you may eat with the other retreatants and residents or retire to your private room.  Please notify us in advance of any special dietary requirements.

We hold silence in the house on the Wednesday from the midday meditation until after the evening meditation. Lunch is therefore silent that day.

Your Time

You are welcome to join the resident community in their daily silent meditation for half an hour, three times a day. Guidance is available on request.

Aside from this timetabled event, much of the day will be largely yours, for quiet contemplation, prayer, walking and self-guided meditation.

We do ask that you assist with a few of the daily requirements such as helping with the washing up after meals… nothing too strenuous or time-consuming and all part of living in community.

If you want to include some gentle gardening or other activity as part of your retreat time we can arrange that too. The Meditation Room is available for your use and is a wonderful space for quiet reflection.

Spiritual direction and conversation is also available on request.

Treatments

We are currently able to offer treatments by two local independent therapists.

Massage Reflexology or Cranio-Sacral

Nora offers a choice of three therapies, massage, reflexology, or cranio-sacral, on Tuesday afternoons, at a special rate of £40 an hour. Appointments are usually an hour long, but can also be a half hour taster (to enable you to try out a treatment for example) at a reduced rate.

Universal Soul Healing & Reiki

Debbie combines ‘Universal Soul Healing & Reiki’ into a one hour treatments available on either Wednesday or Thursday. The cost per 1 hour session is £35, payment by cash or cheque paid directly to the therapist.

Treatments are offered on a first come basis and must be booked in advance.  Payment is made directly to the therapist. To book a treatment please fill out your times and preferences on the booking form.
