The Abbey Sutton Courtenay, Log Fire Evenings Present: EXTINCTION REBELLION
February 2 @ 18:30 - 20:00Free
First in a series of Log Fire Evenings examining the big issues we face in this new decade.
The series will explore aspects of global transformation through personal transformation, through topics such as climate, consciousness and spirituality, as well as offering practical tools to enhance our daily lives.
For our first event we have invited Extinction Rebellion to deliver us the hard truth about our climate.
The evening will be presented in two halves with a refreshment break.
HEADING FOR EXTINCTION (AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT)
Extinction Rebellion is a non-violent civil movement aiming to elicit significant, meaningful and life-saving governmental action on the climate and ecological crisis. It is comprised of ordinary citizens who are deeply concerned about our beautiful earth and all the life in and on it.
In this talk, speakers from Extinction Rebellion will share the latest climate science on where life on earth is heading, why we need to act now with urgency, and discuss what’s been tried (with limited success) to halt climate change and massive biodiversity loss.
We will explain how XR, based on social science studies of successful social change movements, offers a potential solution. You’ll learn about XR’s demands, how our core principles and shared values guide us, how we operate, and how you can, if you wish, get involved.
This talk may not be suitable for young children.
