A Spiritual Home

On 14 March the Abbey Trustees announced that the Abbey would close on 1 April for 2 years of refurbishment. Many Company Members did not want to see the Abbey closed and so have worked with the trustees to develop an alternative plan which allows the Abbey to remain open. This will ensure the Abbey continues to fulfil its charitable objectives by offering education programs and retreats, alongside enhancing its engagement with the local community.

It goes without saying that with a Grade1 listed ancient building, there is a constant need for renovation and ongoing maintenance work but we will undertake this programme of works more gradually, obtaining consent and advice as necessary, and planning any unavoidable closure of part of the Abbey’s facilities well in advance so this does not conflict with activities.

We hope our members and clients will support our fundraising efforts and continue to book and attend events, all of which will help fund the charity and enable building improvements.

Once again, please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.

We have a team in place and we look forward to welcoming you back to The Abbey, open again as of 22 April 2024.

A truly lovely, peaceful, welcoming community. The food was amazing too.

I use the Abbey, with colleagues, for academic writing retreats and cannot rate it highly enough. The food is fantastic, the community who run the Abbey are incredibly helpful, and the peace and tranquility is wonderful. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. It is a wonderful place to think, work and relax all at once.

The Abbey has a warm, welcoming community, gorgeous grounds to roam, beautiful and historic houses to stay, and wonderful food all made from scratch for the guests. The walled garden serves as a great place to relax, and the property hosts a perfect environment for meditation and reflection.

Expensive for the size of the dishes. Too long wait. Non very professional staff. Cozy pub.
