One of our founders hopes were that The Abbey might provide a place to ‘Stop and Think’; The Abbey’s Rest & Renewal Retreat provides both the time and the space with which to do this.
The wonderful atmosphere here at the Abbey provides a nurturing peaceful space for self-guided meditation, contemplation, prayer and relaxation. For 3 days you are invited to join us, The Abbey community for silent meditation and home cooked vegan or vegetarian meals.
Whether you are seeking spiritual direction and conversation or simply a little time out from your busy schedule, the Abbey’s unique medieval building and extensive grounds provide the perfect environment to ‘Stop and Think’.
Our monthly Rest & Renewal Retreats usually run from Tuesday to Thursday.

* The Abbey Easter Retreat is a 3 night stay over the Easter weekend, join The Abbey resident community in celebrating Easter with egg painting, a mindfulness egg hunt, spring walks and camp fires with singing for those who wish to join in.
What to expect while staying with The Abbey on Retreat
Retreats run from lunchtime Tuesday to after lunch on Thursday. You are welcome to arrive any time from 10am on the Tuesday morning.
Healthy Meals – Silent Contemplation
Three meals a day will be provided: you may eat with the other retreatants and residents or retire to your private room.
We hold silence in the house on the Wednesday from the midday meditation until after the evening meditation. Lunch is therefore silent that day.
Please notify us of special diets and for those wishing to detox a flour and sugar free meal plan can be provided on request.
You are welcome to join the resident community in their daily silent meditation for half an hour, three times a day. Guidance is available on request.
Aside from this timetabled event, much of the day will be largely yours, for quiet contemplation, prayer, walking and self-guided meditation.
We do ask that you assist with a few of the daily requirements such as helping with the washing up after meals… nothing too strenuous or time-consuming and all part of living in community.
If you want to include some gentle gardening or other activity as part of your retreat time we can arrange that too. The Meditation Room is available for your use and a wonderful space for quiet reflection.
Spiritual direction and conversation is also available on request.
Swedish massage, reflexology, or cranio-sacral therapy, are available on request at a special rate of £35 an hour. Appointments are usually an hour long, but can also be a half hour taster (to enable you to try out a treatment for example).
Treatments take place on Tuesday afternoon and are are offered on a first come basis so must be booked in advance.
Cost for Retreat in 2017
The costs vary depending on your ability to pay.
For people who’s income is below £12,000 – £120
For people earning between £12,000 and £20,000 – £155
For people earning over £20,000 – £190
